Le Samourai 1968 Japanese B2 Film Poster

A striking piece of international cinema design. This original and very rare first-year-of-release Japanese film poster for Jean-Pierre Melville's classic Le Samourai is superb. Perfectly matching the cool, minimalist intensity of the film itself. Dark, atmospheric and visually powerful, it has the sleek graphic style that makes Japanese posters from this period so collectible.

Melville's, Le Samourai is one of the defining crime films of the 1960s. Spare, stylish and utterly controlled, it follows a solitary hitman through a world of silence, shadows and betrayal, and remains a landmark of French cinema.

At its centre is Alain Delon, whose icy screen presence made the role of Jef Costello one of his most iconic. Few actors embodied elegance and detachment so completely, and this poster captures that unmistakable star quality beautifully.

Japanese poster design often gave European films a fresh visual identity, blending dramatic montage imagery with bold typography and a distinctive sense of space. This example does exactly that, making it both a superb film poster and a standout display piece.

This vintage movie poster was originally folded (as issued), but has been stored flat a long time and folds wavy and barely noticeable. It is sized 20 x 28 1/2 inches and will be sent rolled (unframed).
