We love this incredibly rare original French poster for A Queen is Crowned, produced for the 1953 release of the landmark documentary on Queen Elizabeth II’s Coronation. It is the only example we have ever seen.
Filmed in glorious Technicolor, the documentary brought the full ceremony at Westminster Abbey to cinema audiences around the world, capturing the pageantry, ritual and sheer spectacle of 2 June 1953. Narrated by Sir Laurence Olivier, it remains a remarkable screen record of the beginning of the Elizabethan age.
The poster is pure royal glamour: a poised portrait of the young Queen in Coronation regalia, glowing against a rich blue background. Jewel-like colour, elegant detail and a strong mid-century French sensibility give it real presence.
Designed by Georges Allard, the acclaimed French poster artist, this is both a beautiful piece of cinema history and a striking Coronation image. Regal, romantic and exceptionally scarce.
This vintage movie poster has been professionally linen-backed and is sized 39 x 58 1/2 inches (plus a little more with the linen). It will be sent rolled (unframed).
