An American in Paris 1951 French Grande Film Poster, Roger Soubie

Incredible first-year-of-release French film poster for Vincente Minnelli's dreamlike musical, An American in Paris.

The daring MGM musical was inspired by George Gershwin's 1928 jazz-influenced symphonic poem or, as Gerswin put it himself, 'rhapsodic ballet'. Starring Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron and featuring a staggeringly ambitious ballet sequence it became a surprise Oscar winner. Bagging a total of six Oscars in 1952 including Best Picture fending off A Streetcar Named Desire and A Place in the Sun.

An impossibly rare poster and, given Soubie's wonderful design and the film's premise, we think this French poster is by far the best for the title. Superb colours and composition.

This original vintage movie poster is sized 45 1/8 x 62 inches and will be sent rolled (unframed).
