Extremely rare and quite wonderful East German first-year-of-release film poster for The Ladykillers. A brilliantly offbeat piece of vintage film design, with its bold illustration, sharp humour and unmistakably stylised look giving the classic Ealing comedy a wonderfully distinctive visual twist. It is the kind of poster that grabs attention instantly and keeps it.

Directed by Alexander Mackendrick and starring Alec Guinness, The Ladykillers remains one of the great British black comedies, blending crime, farce and eccentric character with effortless charm. East German posters from this period are especially admired for their imaginative, graphic approach, often reinterpreting familiar films in a far more artistic and individual way than standard commercial campaigns.

What makes this poster especially desirable is its rarity. Only five hundred posters were printed for the film’s release in East Germany, and the majority were used and then discarded, making surviving examples exceptionally scarce today.

Rare, characterful and hugely collectible. This vintage movie poster was originally folded (as issued) but has now professionally linen-backed. It is sized 22 3/4 by 32 inches (plus a little more with the linen-backing) and will be sent folded (unframed).
