A spectacular original French Grande film poster for Thunderball, the fourth James Bond adventure starring Sean Connery as 007. This large-format poster combines explosive underwater action, glamour and bold French title design, creating exactly the kind of dynamic impact expected from classic Bond advertising. Its impressive scale gives the artwork real cinema presence.
Released in 1965, Thunderball was directed by Terence Young and became one of the most successful Bond films of the 1960s. The plot sees Bond travel to the Bahamas to recover stolen nuclear warheads from SPECTRE, with underwater battles, exotic locations and a memorable cast including Claudine Auger, Adolfo Celi and Luciana Paluzzi.
The artwork is by Robert McGinnis and Frank McCarthy, two of the great names in American film poster illustration. McGinnis was renowned for his elegant depictions of glamour and intrigue, while McCarthy specialised in action and spectacle. Together, their Bond imagery helped define the visual language of 1960s spy cinema.
This vintage film poster was folded (as issued) and has now been professionally linen-backed. It is sized 46 x 61 1/2 inches (plus a little more with the linen-backing) and will be sent rolled (unframed).
