We absolutely love this first-year-of-release Japanese Tatekan poster for Bullitt — tall, bold and ridiculously cool. Steve McQueen owns the design as Frank Bullitt, all calm menace and effortless style, surrounded by sharp Japanese typography, punchy action shots and a burst of San Francisco street-race energy.
Directed by Peter Yates, Bullitt changed the police thriller: leaner, tougher, cooler. McQueen plays a San Francisco detective caught in a dirty web of corruption while protecting a key witness, but the film’s myth was made on those hills — McQueen, a Ford Mustang GT and one of the greatest car chases ever put on screen.
Japanese film posters have a knack for making Western cinema look even cooler, and this large two-sheet Tatekan format gives Bullitt serious presence. Big, graphic and full of late-60s swagger, it is a killer piece for McQueen fans and design collectors alike. An incredibly rare poster.
This vintage film poster was printed in two pieces and has been professionally linen-backed. It is sized 20 1/4 x 57 3/4 inches (plus a little more with the linen-backing) and will be sent rolled (unframed).
