Cyrk Waistcoated Seal 1966 Polish Circus Poster, Waldemar Swierzy

We love Waldemar Swierzy's design that features on this original Polish Cyrk poster from 1966. The wonderfully characterful design of a smartly dressed seal in a waistcoat, set against a bold red ground with large circus lettering above is funny, stylish and instantly memorable. Exactly the kind of witty visual idea that makes Polish circus posters so sought after. It certainly gets our seal of approval!

The Polish Cyrk posters of the 1950s, 60s and 70s are admired for turning circus advertising into a highly imaginative art form. Artists were able to interpret circus performers and animals with humour, abstraction and expressive graphic invention, creating posters that work beautifully as standalone artworks.

Waldemar Swierzy was one of Poland's most important poster artists, known for his energetic line, painterly surfaces and brilliant sense of personality. In this poster, the seal becomes both performer and comic star, with the simple composition giving the image real impact.

This vintage film poster is sized 26 1/4 x 38 inches. It will be sent rolled (unframed).
