Lovely original Advise and Consent c1962 Limited Edition US Silkscreen film poster designed by Saul Bass.
Frustrated with the modifications made by film studios to his poster designs, graphic artist Saul Bass decided to produce silkscreen prints of the purest unadulterated form of his designs. These prints were intended solely for his personal use—never for sale or distributed to the studios. During the first 10-15 years, Bass had 50 copies of each design printed, along with 5 potential rejects for any screening issues. He submitted these pieces to graphic design competitions and publications and donated some to institutions like MOMA in New York and his alma mater's art collection. He also gave a few as gifts to colleagues and collaborators.
By the 1970s, Bass recognised that he was running low on several of his earlier titles, prompting him to reassess the printing quantity. Although there’s no evidence he reprinted those titles, he began to increase the number for future projects—such as 'Such Good Friends' and 'The Shining'—to 150 each, still reserving them exclusively for his own use and never for commercial sale. These hand-pulled serigraphs were created under his direction at the Art Krebs Studio in Los Angeles, conveniently located near his design studio.
This original silkscreen is sized 26 1/4 x 35 1/8 inches and will be sent rolled (unframed).
