A seriously seductive original East German poster for Boccaccio 70, designed by Erhard Gruttner for the film’s first DDR release in 1965. Almost entirely in deep red, with a stylised female figure, flowing hair, apple motif and crisp white type, it is bold, graphic and impossible to ignore. A fantastic example of Eastern European film poster design at its most daring and artful.
Inspired by the spirit of Boccaccio’s Decameron, Boccaccio 70 is a glamorous Italian anthology of modern desire, satire and temptation. Its pedigree is extraordinary, with episodes directed by Federico Fellini, Luchino Visconti, Vittorio De Sica and Mario Monicelli, and a cast including Anita Ekberg, Romy Schneider and Sophia Loren.
Rather than showing scenes from the film, Gruttner goes straight for the mood: playful, sensual, strange and just a little wicked. The apple, the red palette and the exaggerated figure give the whole piece a sharp pop-surrealist punch. Stylish, provocative and very collectable.
This vintage film poster is sized 22 1/2 x 32 inches. It will be sent rolled (unframed).
