A bold collision of fashion, art and Pop culture. This original large-format French Chanel advertising poster from 1997 features Andy Warhol’s unmistakable interpretation of the legendary Chanel No. 5 bottle — one of the most recognisable objects in twentieth-century design.
Warhol first explored the Chanel bottle in the 1980s as part of his Ads series, transforming the classic perfume flacon into something brighter, flatter and altogether more electric. Chanel later produced a series of four poster designs based on the image, each using a different, high-impact colour combination. This striking blue and yellow version is arguably one of the most graphic of the set, with the intense cobalt background and acid yellow creating superb wall presence.
Chanel needs little introduction. Founded by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, the house became synonymous with modern French elegance, while Chanel No. 5 — launched in 1921 — developed into an icon in its own right. Warhol’s treatment takes that luxury identity and gives it a distinctly Pop Art edge: glamorous, graphic and instantly recognisable.
A fabulous statement piece with serious scale. Fashion history, French advertising and Andy Warhol in one exceptionally cool poster.
This original poster has been professionally linen-backed and is sized approx. 45 3/4 x 66 1/4 inches (plus a little including the linen-backing). It will be sent rolled (unframed).
