A wonderful survivor from Paris's legendary Théâtre du Chat Noir. Henri Rivière's 1894 design frames the evening's programme with a dense procession of black cats, creating an instantly recognisable border around the changing letterpress bill.
Rivière was closely associated with the Chat Noir and became one of the key graphic artists of fin-de-siècle Paris. This small-format poster has all the atmosphere of Montmartre nightlife in the 1890s — witty, graphic and wonderfully authentic.
This original poster has been professionally linen-backed and is sized approx. 16 x 22 1/2 inches (plus a little including the linen-backing). It will be sent rolled (unframed).
