High Noon 1965 East German A1 Film Poster, Fred Westphal

Incredibly rare original East German film poster for High Noon, created for the 1965 DDR release of Fred Zinnemann's classic western. Designed by Fred Westphal, this striking poster takes a wonderfully graphic approach to the film, setting a lone gunman at the centre of an empty frontier town. The warm orange background, black illustrated buildings and bold red and blue typography give the design a distinctive mid-century look, far removed from the more familiar Hollywood publicity artwork.

Originally released in 1952, High Noon is one of the defining westerns of American cinema. Directed by Fred Zinnemann, the film stars Gary Cooper as Marshal Will Kane, who must face a gang of killers alone after the townspeople refuse to help him. Grace Kelly co-stars in one of her early major roles. Famous for its real-time structure, moral tension and Oscar-winning performance from Cooper, High Noon remains a landmark film about courage, duty and isolation.

East German film posters are highly prized for their creative and often unexpected interpretations of international films. Rather than relying on star portraits or standard studio imagery, DDR poster artists frequently reduced a film to a powerful visual idea. Here, Fred Westphal captures the essence of High Noon beautifully: a deserted town, a solitary figure and the unbearable tension before confrontation.

This vintage film poster is sized 22 1/2 x 32 inches. It will be sent rolled (unframed).
