Masculin Feminin 1966 German A1 Film Poster, Hans Hillmann

The first-year-of-release German film poster for Jean-Luc Godard's Masculin Feminin featuring fantastic art by Hans Hillmann. A rare and very beautiful poster.

Hans Hillmann (1925 - 2014), one of the most important Modernist German graphic artists and, considered the founding father of the modern German film poster, designed over 130 film posters between 1953 and 1974 for Walter Kirchner's distribution company Neue Filmkunst. Kirchner hired Hillmann straight out of art school and afforded him incredible freedom to promote the international arthouse classics he distributed in whichever way he chose. This resulted in an impressive body of work and some truly inspiring designs for landmark films such as Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai and Robert Bresson’s Pickpocket.

During his prolific, almost six decade long career, he designed over 160 film posters and over 600 other drafts and illustrations. With his distinctive style Hillmann’s designs never failed to deliver and his artistry is greatly admired by many, including acclaimed international filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard who decorated an apartment in Two or Three Things I Know About Her with Hillmann’s posters.

This original vintage movie poster is sized 23 1/4 x 33 inches. It will be sent rolled (unframed).
