St Moritz c1935 Swiss Travel Poster, Walter Herdeg and Alb Steiner

We love the colours and design on this original 1930s Swiss St. Moritz Travel poster. A classic Swiss photo-montage of a baby reaching out to a sunburst. Designed by the celebrated graphic designer Walter Herdeg (1908-1995), using photography by Albert (Alb.) Steiner (1877-1965). Extremely rare, especially in this larger Swiss format. Printed by Orell Fussli c.1935.

Herdeg had a distinctive style in which he used typography with a combination of photography to create unified photo-montage posters that had simple messages with limited wording. The messages were conveyed by the clever use of imaging and brief, sentimental typefaces that were reminiscent of handwriting. This poster for the famous Ski Resort St. Moritz being a classic example.

This vintage poster has been professionally linen-backed without any restoration and looks fabulous. Just a couple of tiny spots of surface paper-loss in places. It is sized 36 x 50 1/4 inches (38 1/2 x 53 inches including the linen-backing) and will be sent rolled (unframed).
