"What are you afraid of Private Brigg - the jungle or the tarts?"
Country of origin poster from the adaptation of Leslie Thomas' novel about raw recruits serving with the British army in Singapore. Acquired from a relative of John Stockle, the designer of the poster, as part of a private collection. John Stockle is quoted in Sam Branaghan's British Film Posters as saying "We did have some fun with my design for The Virgin Soldiers. I persuaded a lad in our art studio to run across our photographic studio naked and holding a rifle! We placed a small Union Jack on his bottom as a tattoo. London Transport objected to both the tattoo on the 'offending buttocks', and the white background (an invitation to graffiti), and it finally ended up with a dark green background, and Union Jack underpants!"
